  •  Uploading PowerPoints via FTP

Click here to see this guide as a Power Point Website created following these steps. (must be viewed in Internet Explorer)

If your presentation is greater than 20 megabytes, or you are unable to upload it into the Synergy Room directly, you will need to follow these steps to make your power point presentation available online.

    1. Download Smart FTP.  Smart FTP is a free FTP (File Transfer) program which will allow you to upload your files to a server or file storage place online.  You can download Smart FTP from www.smartftp.com
    2. Download and install smart FTP.
    3. Open Microsoft PowerPoint and open the powerpoint file you wish to use.
    4. Go to FileàSave As A Web Page
    5. Save the file as a “Web Page” (not a “single webpage”) to your computer, with the title of your choice, but without spaces.  If your filename is My Presentation, change this to My_Presentation or My-Presentation
    6. This will save 2 things to your computer (I save mine to my Desktop for easy reference later)  It will save a .htm file (My-Presentation.htm) and a presentation folder (My-Presentation_files)
    7. Once your PowerPoint is saved as a Web Page, you can close down Power Point.
    8. Open SmartFTP
    9. Go to Fileà New Remote Browser;  A window will pop up asking you to enter your FTP information in the spaces provided.  You will need to obtain this from your server administrator or the person who is providing you with space online to store your files.  If you do not have an FTP hosting account, you can purchase one from Godaddy.com (website hosting package 1, 3.99 per month)
      1. Host:  The address of your ftp server
      2. Path: leave this blank unless a path has been specified by your provider
      3. Login Type: Username and Password (most FTPs will not allow Anonymous logins)
      4. Username/Password: use what has been specified by your provider
      5. Click OK

    1.  If it does not connect you, hit the Green Go Button;  Now you shold be connected to the FTP
    2. Go to FileàNew Local Browser and select a directory on your computer
    3. locate the directory on the FTP Server (Left Window Pane) you wish to save the file;  then locate the directory on your computer (Right Window Pane) where you saved your htm file and your presentation folder.
    4. Drag and drop the files from the Right Window to the Left Window (from the Local Browser to the Remote Browser)
    5. This will upload your files to the ftp server.  For more information on using Smart FTP, please visit www.smartftp.com and view their Tutorials and Support pages.

Once your file and folder are uploaded, your file and directory will become the website address to locate your file online.

For example:  I saved My-Presentation.htm to my ftp.  My ftp address is

ftp://my.ftpserver.com  and I saved it in a folder called “powerpoint”

The website address for my presentation would become:

    http://my.ftpserver.com/powerpoint/My-Presentation.htm

http://  replaces ftp://, and I included the folder name and the presentation name on the end.  The address IS case specific.

    So, http://my.ftpserver.com/powerpoint/my-presentation.htm would not work.
